Nexceris and Fuel Cell Materials (FCM) are excited to present as part of the 48th International Conference and Expo on Advanced Ceramics and Composites (ICACC2023) at the Hilton Daytona Beach Resort and Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida on January 28 – February 2, 2024.
The ICACC conference, sponsored by the American Ceramics Society, includes the 21st International Symposium on Solid Oxide Cells (SOC): Materials, Science and Technology. The conference is attended by many in academia and industry to discuss the latest work in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) and solid oxide electrolyzer cells (SOEC). Due to the high-quality technical presentations and unique networking opportunities, this event has achieved tremendous worldwide interest and has attracted active participation from ceramic researchers and developers from the global technical community.
Kiran Adepalli will be presenting on Interconnect and Balance Plant Component Coatings for Solid Oxide Electrolysis Stacks and Systems on Thursday, February 1 at 1:30 PM in Ballroom 1-2. The session will focus on solid oxide electrolysis (SOEC) and their unique benefits that no other competing technology offers in terms of efficiency, fuel flexibility, reversibility, and ability to co-electrolyze steam and CO2 to produce syngas.
Despite these unparalleled features, SOEC often struggles with a wide range of acceptability due to durability and cost concerns. Durability is associated with their operating temperatures, typically 600 to 850oC, which limits material choices for alloys that are stable and oxidation resistant. In this presentation, we will show interconnect degradation via Cr evaporation from the steel interconnects and our approach to suppress it using our ChromLokTM coating. We will also discuss our approach to protect stack and high-temperature Balance Of Plant (BOP) components. We demonstrate coatings compatibility in stacks tested in SOEC, as well as reversible solid oxide cells (rSOC) over a few thousand hours with a low degradation rate. We also will present the scalability of these coatings and cost-effectiveness when made at scale without increasing the overall stack cost.
In addition, Chris Corwin will be in attendance to meet with customers and other participants to discuss SOC material and component supply, which Nexceris’ FCM group provides to academia and commercial partners in small and large amounts, as well as our proven LEVER joint development opportunities, which helps partners in the SOC industry successfully achieve their Go-To-Market goals.
