For years, the clean energy transition, particularly in the United States, has been largely focused on research and development and innovation at an academic level. However, as countries around the world are realizing the importance of energy independence and true progress on clean energy, a push towards commercialization of new technologies is ramping up.
While attending the European Fuel Cell Forum in Switzerland in July, it was evident that commercial fuel cell and hydrogen projects are becoming more prevalent across the globe. As attendee Chris Corwin, head of Nexceris’ Materials Business Unit, noted, “Scaling up is more important than ever. Government leaders from the European Union, United States, Korea, and Japan all described ways they are quickly moving to fund commercialization.”
Nexceris, through its Materials Business Unit, is actively assisting original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) around the world with scale-up by providing materials, components, and technologies for fuel cell and electrolysis applications. In addition, Nexceris’ solid oxide electrolysis team is undertaking research and development of cells and stacks. One such area of excitement is in pressurized electrolysis, which is the key to successful commercialization of this technology.
